The traditional wedding bouquet toss involves the bride tossing her bouquet over her shoulder to a group of screaming single women. It’s a funny sight to see how “single” women push each other trying to grab the thrown bouquet. It is said that whoever catches the bouquet of flowers will be the lucky one to get married soon.
Today, more and more brides are turning away from the traditional bouquet toss. If you are getting married and want to put a little fun/twist on the traditional wedding flower toss, take a look at the following:
- breakup bouquets – Ask your florist to create a “disposable” bouquet made up of several smaller bouquets. Taken together, it will look like a regular bridal bouquet. Just before the toss, the bride will separate the room divider bouquet into individual ones and toss them over her shoulder. In this way, more than one single woman will receive the bouquets.
- Single Flower Release – Ask your florist to prepare a bunch of loose flowers for you. On each flower you can place a ribbon or a note with some fortunes written on them. Then throw those flowers into the crowd. Similar to the above, more than one single woman will receive the flowers of fortune. Instead of throwing them away, you can also hand out the flowers to single women.
- Launch of bouquet “Finnish style” – This is a Finnish tradition. In this scenario, the single woman forms a circle around the bride. The bride holds her wedding bouquet in front of her. She is then blindfolded and then she slowly turns around as the music starts. When the music stops, the person the bridal bouquet is pointing to receives the bouquet.
- Launch of “Musical Chair” bouquet – Something similar to the above, single women form a circle. The bridal bouquet is then passed around the circle as the music begins. When the music stops, the person holding the bouquet is eliminated. This is then repeated until there is only one person left with the bouquet and that is the winner. Another twist is that when the music first stops, the person holding the bouquet keeps it.
- Combo Bouquet/Garter Toss – If you plan to launch the garter too, both of you can launch the garter/bouquet at the same time. Here you can mix “single” women and “single” men. You can put a slight twist on this one by having the bride toss the garter and the groom toss the bouquet.
- Candy Boxes/Toss Favors – Instead of throwing away your bouquet, you can throw away your wedding favors/bonbonnieres. Here you can invite everyone to participate. If there are going to be a lot of children, you can even throw candy and toys.
- others – Give the bouquet to an important person in the family (your mother or grandmother), to the next bride and groom to be married, to the oldest bride and groom, to your maid of honor, to the dancing crowd if you don’t want to stop the dance for the launch of the bouquet.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you plan to keep your bridal bouquet, ask your florist to make another bouquet that you will use for the launch.
