The women must get up early to prepare breakfast for everyone in their families. On the other hand, we don’t see this event very much in modern families. Wives can wake up at the same time as their husbands and not prepare anything.
This is an example that shows the difference between traditional families and modern families in my country. I think there are many differences, but I am going to contrast only three big differences, which are the size, the head of the family and the discipline.
One important difference is the size of the family. The size of traditional families is larger than that of modern families. They normally have more than ten people in their families, while modern families have only three or four people. Traditional families always live with their relatives and have many children, so they are large families. Another reason is his job. Traditional families are farmers. Family members can work on their farms, therefore they do not hire workers. They can save a lot of money.
On the contrary, modern families do not need anyone to help them with their work because they work in the office. They only have one or two children and do not live with their relatives. I think this difference affects modern families because they won’t know their relatives, like traditional families do. They only meet with them on special occasions, such as birthdays and New Years.
For example, children don’t get used to their grandparents because they only see them a few times a year. They will not respect them as much as they should. I think it will become an aggressive problem in our societies because they do not know how to appreciate or sympathize with the elderly. Children will not obey or help them when they grow up. For example, adolescents do not obey their teachers, as if they were small children or do not give old people seats when they see them in the subway.
Another difference between traditional families and modern families is the head of the household. Men are always the traditional head of the family. Women tend to care for children at home, while men work outside. Women and children must listen and obey when men tell them. Men have the power to order their family members to do everything, even if they don’t like to do it. For example, parents can choose husbands for their daughters. It’s not a good idea that women and children always need to believe their orders, so now they have been changed to modern families.
Modern families have no head of household because women and men are equal. Both women and men work outside. They share ideas with each other. Women and children do not obey the orders of the men if they believe that their orders are not correct. Women and children can decide for themselves. For example, women work outdoors, just like men. When the women come home, they don’t do the housework alone because the men need to help together. I think it is the positive change in our societies.
The last difference is discipline. Traditional families have many rules that directly impact their children. I think that parents in traditional families are always strict because they have many children to take care of. Only women take care of children at home, so they need to have a lot of rules to control them. On the other hand, modern families have few rules to control their children. The parents of modern families work outside. They don’t have enough time to take care of their children, so they don’t have time to set rules either. They always pamper them. They hire someone to watch their children while they work outside.
This difference actually affects modern families because their children will always create trouble to get their parents’ attention. For example, children do not go to school because they want their parents to ask why they do this. They want their parents to talk to them. This article has presented three differences between traditional families and modern families in my country.
I think these differences may indicate some development of the family system from the past to now, such as taking care of children and their lives. When societies change, families also change. Both good and bad things change. People should choose only the good things to change in their families because families are important.
