Microsoft Excel can identify the type of data that you enter into the worksheet. You do not need to tell Microsoft Excel what the data type is, the data will be differentiated and examined accordingly. Basically the data consists of numbers and text, you can enter text as part of a formula to handle complicated tabulation and calculation.
There are 4 types of data in Microsoft Excel 2007,
The first basic piece of information is the text, which is an alphabetical representation that could include descriptions, sentences, and headings. For example “My name is Luis T”, it will be identified in Microsoft Excel as Text, another example “There are 2 numbers”, it will also be distinguished as Text.
The second basic and common data type is numbers. This type of data consists of numbers, which could be used to represent whole numbers, prices, percentages, and other numerical information. For example, “123” are numbers, but “number 123” is considered text. Most tables are made up of numbers, and the graph can only be drawn with numbers. Some of the numbers could include commas, decimal points, and perhaps represented by the currency symbol.
The third data type is Dates and Times, example date “14-Mar-01”, “Mar 01”, “03-14-01” and “3-14”, which could also include many other representations. “1:30:55 PM”, “13:30”, “1:30 PM”, “13:30:55” and “13:30:55 PM” are some examples of times.
The boolean value is the fourth data type, it could only contain two information, TRUE and FALSE, it is not a commonly used data type, but it could be a useful tool when you need to use it in a logical formula.
