JEE Mains and Advanced Online preparation
India is home to the largest number of technical institutions with good infrastructure in the world. It also has the largest number of engineers and produces over 1 million engineering graduates every year. However, of this, only around 7-8% of the graduates are conferred their degrees from institutes such as IIT, NIT or other autonomous deemed universities. The remaining graduates are produced by other private engineering colleges which have approval from All India Council for Technical Education. Engineering is a much sought after vocation in India, entry into Central government funded institutes such as IITs, and NITs are very much coveted. An entry into such an institute lays the foundation for world class education and subsidized cost and providing opportunities to be absorbed into top Multinational corporations and institutes with a hefty salary. An education from such institutes also moulds young minds into a career of research and scientific work. Thus, the entrance examinations into these colleges or institutes are cut throat and with a very low acceptance rate. There are two examinations which are of importance, namely Joint Entrance Examination –Mains [JEE MAINS] and Joint Entrance Examination Advanced [JEE Advanced].
The Joint Entrance Examination – Main ws formerly an AICTE run national level examination by the name of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). The National Testing Agency (NTA) organizes the examination and it serves as entrance examination to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses in various institutions in India. Adopting global standards, the JEE Mains examination is now conducted four times a year. This examination also serves as a preliminary level examination for shortlisting candidates who are made eligible to take the JEE Advanced for entry to IITs and other engineering institutes of national importance. In JEE Main, there is a total of 90 questions out of which the candidates need to attempt any 75.
The Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE ADVANCED) was formely known as IIT Joint Entrance Examination. It is held annually for admission to the prestigious engineering colleges like IITs, Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RG-IPT), Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST), the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The examination is conducted only for students who have become eligible after clearing the JEE-Mains. One of the seven zonal IITs (Roorkee, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Delhi, Madras, Bombay and Guwahati) conducts this. The prestige of this examination can be understood from the statistics that it has a success rate of less than 1%. University of Cambridge and NUS, Singapore also use the score obtained in JEE Advanced for admission into their institute. Since 2017, JEE also allows international students to take the test for admission.
