When planning a party, the question always arises as to what type of tableware to use. This is especially true when planning a baby shower party where the opinion of the new mother-to-be is critical.
There really are some who won’t object to using disposable forks and spoons for baby shower tableware and then there are those who are adamantly against it. Here are some pros and cons of using disposable tableware.
advantages
One: It’s really easy to clean up after a party or event if all the tableware is disposable. Once all the guests have left, whoever was left cleaning up after the place has to gather all the evidence of the party and get everything tidy once more. If all the baby shower tableware is disposable, a simple wave of the hand directing it all towards the waiting black bag cuts cleanup time by more than half. Otherwise, it could take a long time to do the dishes.
Two: If the party has a theme or even a color scheme, it is often possible to find tableware that exactly matches this theme and therefore enhances the decor of the event. Sometimes even solid colored plates and napkins will match your décor better than the plate you have in the cupboard. If having the perfect decorations is important, then disposable tableware might make sense.
Three: They are really cheap and can be purchased online or at a local store.
cons
One: some people don’t like disposable tableware because it creates more trash, which is bad for the environment. Even biodegradable and other eco-friendly products won’t be as eco-friendly as using regular dishes and washing them.
Two: the disposable tableware is not the right size and some are too small and some are too big. It is also more difficult to eat with plastic utensils than regular forks and spoons. Plastic knives also do not cut as well as metal ones. Paper plates can be too thin for some types of greasy food, which can result in a mess if they leak.
Three – The worst that can happen is that when eating with these disposables, they can break while still in the mouth. Some of the fork tines can even get lost in a cake and, if care is not taken, can be eaten by a child or adult.
But don’t let the cons scare you away from the idea of using disposable tableware for a party. If you’re really stressed and cleaning is an issue, then do it.
However, if there are children around, then an adult should take care of small children who do not yet know how to eat properly. In addition, it is better that one or two adults watch children at mealtimes. They have a tendency to run with a fork in hand when they get too excited about something.
Don’t let the baby shower tableware theme dampen the fun of the party. Decide what is best for everyone.
