Many people associate aging with losing all their memories or having difficulty hearing. Actually, even though this may seem common among people who are getting older, there are still some who can outgrow these diseases associated with aging and go on without having those pacemakers or walkers with them.
Researchers have discovered that it is diseases that make aging feared and related to many negative things. Diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, and stroke are some of the diseases associated with aging. In reality, those who do not have age-related diseases can live independently and on their own quite well even after reaching old age.
There are apparently a lot of misconceptions associated with aging. Aging is a normal process and should not be associated with many things. To give you ideas, here are some of the myths about aging.
People believed that when you reach old age, you need to lose weight than your ideal weight. Actually, it would help to have at least some extra weight when you get older. Keep in mind that as you age, your fat stores will be depleted as will your water stores.
Some think that when you get older, your personality will also change. Aging does not affect a person’s personality. Therefore, if you are a happy and positive person in the first years of your life, there will be no changes when you reach late adulthood.
I would need a hearing aid when I get old. People believe that you will go deaf when you are older, so you will need a hearing aid. In reality, while some hearing loss is expected and is part of aging, this does not equate to total deafness or dependence on hearing aids.
Memory loss is inevitable in aging. Again, people would think that memory loss and aging go hand in hand and cannot be avoided. This is actually not true, but there really can be some degrees of decreased memory performance, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose it completely.
To combat the diseases associated with aging, it would be best to keep your body active and start doing it when you are young. You can try exercising on a Swiss ball and keep your body active.
