As the title suggests, this Zerg Build Order is for beginner and mid level leagues only. Use this strategy at your own risk in more advanced leagues. This move is called the roach opener. With this little baby you can deal some serious damage to your opponent’s base and you can also easily win the match in a record amount of time.
Before I start the actual build, I want to get all the newbies up to speed. You may have seen Zerg Build Orders with some fancy name like: Number Pool Number Hatch. This is a bit of Starcraft jargon, nothing cryptic, it just takes a bit of explanation and you should be able to figure it out with no problem. So the first part “number pool” means how many drones you will have until you build your own spawn pool. This number differs from build to build because if you’re trying to speed up then you need a pool of 6 for Zerglings and a pool of 8 for Speedlings.
The second part is as simple as the first part “number hatch” means how many drones you need to have before creating your second incubator. Also, this number varies from strategy to strategy because you can do an early expansion with just a few workers or you can wait until you have 35. Whenever you choose a strategy, keep in mind your opponent’s race and the type of game they are playing. .
Let’s go back to the roach opener. The main idea is to go for the Overpool, this means building your drones to the count of 10 and then creating your second Overlord. Next comes pool 13. So get yourself 3 drones and start building your spawn pool. Next on his list are 2 more workers and an extractor because he needs gasoline for his roaches. Assign 3 workers to collect gas, now you will have a good supply for your troops. Next up are 2 more drones and an Overlord. Queen will be very useful for creating new larvae.
As soon as the queen’s ability has cooled down, just spam the larvae spawn as much as you can. For protection, she creates 2-6 zerglings. Note that the next step is to place Roach Warren, make sure to place it behind your resource field in case your enemy tries to scout it. You don’t want to reveal your tactics just yet.
Now start producing roaches 2, then 1, then 4. Overlord is a must because you need to increase your supply. When you have enough, start hitting your opponent’s base. This strategy works very well with low and medium level players. You can literally win the match with this opener. They can’t do anything but sit back and watch their base burn to ashes. In case you miss with your initial attack, set up a secondary base with a population of 35. That way you will have more resources and more spawn locations.
This is a really effective Zerg Build Order, I have personally won many battles while playing in the bronze and silver leagues. The main reason I liked this is that it’s a balanced strategy and you won’t lose much if your first wave can’t break through. it suffered enough that with the second wave you can wipe out its standing forces.
Blizzard made Starcraft 2 a really fun game, so it would be a shame if you gave it up just because you lost a few battles. There is always a lesson in every defeat, don’t take it personally. You win some and you lose some, that’s how it works.
