Moles and gophers can create havoc for gardeners and farmers alike. They are small rodents that create underground tunnel systems that can extend for miles. These little critters can damage PVE pipes, wiring, and underground drainage systems. Moles eat the roots of plants completely destroying them, while lawn moles leave mounds of soil in landscapes. These piles of dirt are called molehills and they can be quite frustrating when they cover an entire garden!
There are a variety of different methods that people use to get rid of moles and gophers. These are some of the most common ways:
Fumigation – Fumigation is a common way to get rid of moles and gophers. Flammable gas bombs are placed at the entrance to the tunnels, and then the tunnels are covered with earth again. The smoke is supposed to fill the tunnel with gas.
Flooding – Flooding is another common way to get rid of these little critters. A hole is dug in the tunnel system and a hose is placed inside it. The water is then turned on and left for at least 15 minutes to flood the moles and gophers out of the lawn.
Traps – Traps are probably the most common way to get rid of these rodents. This method can be time consuming, but it is worth it.
Poisoning – Poisoning is another very common way to get rid of gophers and moles from your lawn. A hole is dug in the tunnel and granules are placed inside the tunnel system. The goal is to get the little creatures to eat the bait.
Predators: Predators such as snakes can be placed in the holes to get rid of these rodents. House cats can also be used to drive away vermin.
