Sometimes it takes a town, and as moms and dads, we know this to be true! Entertaining a little one is a big job, so here are some ideas to make that baby smile!
Halloween this year was an opportunity to get a big smile and lots of laughs from our own son. Dad decided to dress up as our son’s favorite live-action show host: DJ Lance Rock! Our son’s stunned surprise was priceless and made not only him laugh and giggle, but all of us too.
When raising a child or two or three…we all need to add a little lightness to our lives from time to time, remember what it’s like to be a child and enjoy the laughter. The funniest part of that Halloween costume was that the next time the show aired, our son looked at the show’s host, DJ Lance Rock, pointed at him, and said, “Daddy.”
Need easy ways to get your child laughing, moving, dancing and having fun? Well, bring out your inner child and remember that it’s the simpler wonders in life that will cause your child to gape in awe and tickle their funny bone.
Here are some easy ways to make your baby laugh!
- Blow bubbles into a glass of water, through a straw
- Tie two helium balloons to Grandpa’s ears with 12″ string and have him shake his head.
- Put a suction cup toy on the forehead and talk in a funny voice.
- Make a Grape Crate Whistle. Use an empty grape box, with the mouth of the glass open at the opening tightly so no air can escape or blow.
- Pretend to tickle you, laugh and move. Your child will soon try to tickle you and make you laugh. Keep up the laughs and the moves
Remember with everything you do, look at it through the eyes of a child. What makes it new, unique, potentially fun? I’ve found that just reacting in a big way to many of my son’s antics often makes him giggle, and of course making silly sounds with just about everything I do always makes him happy and eager to make those sounds too. . Now, I just need to be mindful not to make those silly sounds when my son isn’t around; people tend to look at me weird.
