Graphic design is a highly demanded skill. The appearance of things is important to society, so it is important to create a high-quality design for advertisements, banners, logos, websites, and web content. You don’t have to be a professional to produce shareable content, as it’s easy to add design elements to existing photos with just a few taps on a phone.
However, technological tools are only one part of everything. A designer must develop an eye for things that work visually and those that prevent viewers from getting the message. The 3 basic web design principles to remember when creating graphics and working with visuals are as follows:
Hierarchy
When a design has multiple elements, the designer must make sure to give more visual weight to the most important message. This is known as hierarchy, which can be achieved in many different ways, such as larger or bold fonts, placing the most important message literally higher than the rest of the information, and making use of shapes to surround and highlight the focal point. The use of visual hierarchy in web design begins with the message and goals of the design.
First of all, it is crucial to find out the most important details. Website owners probably would like the main message of the design to come in the form of a quote or for viewers to know how to follow them or to know that they have a sale.
The main message should be visually established as the focal point and to make it stand out you can have larger text/shapes. Then the secondary message can be included without making it seem overwhelming.
As a suggestion, it would be helpful to style the main message, then add more text, and use the iOS layout wheel for ideas on how to style multiple elements in a single layout. Alternatively, when using social media, the secondary message can be conveyed in the copy/comment portion.
Balance
Balance brings a sense of stability to a design, gives it its shape, and helps distribute elements evenly throughout the design. Such an even space makes it look professional and aesthetically pleasing instead of messy and confusing. The principle of balance does not necessarily mean that elements have to be the same size or evenly distributed throughout the page. It can be symmetrically or asymmetrically balanced.
With symmetrical balance, elements have equal visual weight on both sides of the design, while asymmetrical balance uses contrast to keep the design flowing evenly (such as light elements balanced by dark elements).
Color
Another important part of design is color and this should be carefully thought of every time you start a new design. Colors dictate the mood of a web design and each one has something different to say. People associate the color green with the environment or non-profit organizations, while red can arouse emotions such as anger.
Blue is a passive color that is more calming, while yellow gives a feeling of happiness. People don’t need to know more about color theory to find the right colors. They can combine colors according to the image they use. To make it more readable, it would help to use a gradient background for the text, especially if the color of the text is similar. This will allow the text to jump.
