Things to do in Chicago: The fun things you don’t want to miss.
Sports actually play a very important part of the daily culture of Chicagoans. In addition to the actual fields and games, the city’s energetic atmosphere is enough to make any couch potato want to get up and hit the batting cages.
Wrigley Field, where the Cubs play, has a very young and exciting atmosphere, popular with students and avid Cubs fans alike. A trip to Chicago during the season probably wouldn’t be complete without catching a game and eating one of Chicago’s famous hot dogs (ps. no ketchup!).
US Cellular Field, where the White Sox play, is a kid-friendly park where kids can watch a baseball game and participate in some fun activities to keep the fun going. It’s easier to get tickets to a Sox game than a Cubs game, and you get discounted tickets on Mondays and Tuesdays. Thursdays are $1 Hot Dog Day, yay!
Soldier Field is the home field of the Chicago Bears football team and the United Center is home to the Chicago Bulls basketball team. This center is also the home of the Blackhawks of the NHL, so there is a lot to see there.
If you’re not much into sports and prefer a classic Chicago experience, sailing may be what you need. A summer afternoon on Lake Michigan is as beautiful as it sounds (as long as you don’t venture too far, the lake is notorious for being treacherous among even the most seasoned sea dwellers). If you don’t have a boat, there are plenty of water taxis that can take you between your destinations or you can take a water tour through various companies.
Chicago is also where the infamous Al ‘Scarface’ Capone made his headquarters after moving from New York and growing from petty thief to notorious criminal figure. Capone ruled this town until he was arrested for tax evasion in the 1930s, not the countless murders they also tried to pin on him.
Celebrating the man who made Chicago dark and sexy, Untouchable Times and Tours offers a fun and light-hearted look at Capone and the Prohibition era surrounding his reign. You’ll be taken to all sorts of interesting sites (including murder sites) and get a glimpse of the seedy underbelly of Chicago in the 1930s.
Also on the dramatic side of things, you probably already know that Chicago is world famous for its world-class theatrical, musical, and dance extravaganzas. Tickets can be half the price if you book last minute, and there are plenty of places to find a quick bargain, like http://www.hottix.org. You can always find tickets to the most popular musicals, theatre, opera, orchestra and ballet in this city, so if you’re a culture buff, you’ll probably never want to leave. If you’re looking for a place to start, (obviously) the downtown theater district is where you need to be.
